When you enter a flow state, you enter a particular state of consciousness. It feels like you are in a perfect creative world where words flow out of you effortlessly.

“Control of consciousness determines the quality of life.” ― Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience

Flow is a state of consciousness that uncorks creative potential for creatives and writers. I love the feeling of being in the Flow. It makes writing close to effortless.

From the time the Flow State was first coined by the Hungarian-American psychologist, whose name is impossible to say, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, easy hacks to enter the Flow have been developed.

  • Find your magical time — the time when you have the most creative energy. My time is in the morning, about an hour after I wake up. Make it a routine to only write during this time.
  • Set up a distraction-free environment — This is a crucial step as distractions and multi-tasking will take you out of the Flow.
  • Have a definite purpose goal in mind — For example, I will write a 250-word atomic blog ready to publish during the next hour.
  • Play ambient music — Here is a playlist from Spotify called Deep Focus I like: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWZeKCadgRdKQ?si=5d02d23c787c4f61]
  • Follow this ritual every day — Some days you will enter Flow quicker than others. The more you are consistent, the easier it becomes.

I see my time in the Flow as a special time for myself. It is my sacred space. Let me know how being in the Flow is for you.
